Finalist for the Director of Children’s Ministry position: Miss Jackie Wiebold
Brief Biographical Note
Jackie Wiebold (pronounced wee-bold) grew up at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Battle Ground, Washington (a congregation similar in size and in ministry approach to the Family of Faith). At her church home she enjoyed being part of the Praise Team (she plays guitar, bass, piano, and drums) with her mother (a drummer).
Mentors Note Her Excellent Ministry Skills
The DCE who served at Prince of Peace while Jackie was growing up, Chris Schwenneker (now the Senior High Ministry Director at Prince of Peace, Carrolton, Texas), wrote a letter of support highlighting Jackie’s heart for caring, leadership, and teaming. Jackie’s internship supervisor, Deaconess Betty Knapp of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Marquette, Michigan, also wrote a letter of support for Jackie emphasizing Jackie’s exceptional organizational skills and ability as a leader.
A Leader among Her Peers
In addition to how Jackie’s mentors perceived her, Jackie’s peer at Concordia University, St. Paul, Minnesota, also viewed Jackie in a very positive light. Twice Jackie ran for elected offices in the Student Senate – once for Vice President of Finance and Organizations and once for Vice President of Public Affairs. On both occasions she was elected and served with honor, accuracy, and sensitivity to the needs of her fellow students. Jackie’s less serious side was also evident as she participated on a traveling drama team that presented the Gospel creatively to youth and children in the region.
Besides her excellent ministry skills, and strong leadership skills, Jackie also excelled academically. As a member of the University Honors Program, Jackie maintained a 3.98 GPA as she pursued a certification as a Director of Christian Education with Minors in Confessional Lutheranism, Biblical Languages, and Mathematics. In addition to her course work, Jackie also twice joined Dr. Mark Schuler at the archeological excavation of Hippos/Sussita in the Jordan Valley in Israel. She also joined Dr. Schuler on an educational trip to Rome. Dr. Schuler (the Chairperson for the Department of Theology and Ministry, and the Director of the University Honors Program) wrote in his recommendation letter:
She (Jackie) is the best theological student on campus currently … Whether functioning as an office assistant, a small finds registrar on a dig, sorting out a technological issue, or organizing a public event, Jackie can handle details, solve problems, facilitate teamwork with grace and kindness … I cannot wait to see what God has in store for the church through Jackie.
The Senior Pastor, Elders, and Staff Agree on Jackie as the Finalist
Pastor Doug, the elders, Peter, and Cora have all interviewed Jackie via Skype. All who have met her have agreed that she is an excellent fit for the Director of Children’s Ministry position at the Family of Faith Lutheran Church. Please keep Jackie and the Family of Faith in your prayers as the process of discerning the Lord’s will continues to move forward.
